Delta Servo Systems
Delta is a leading manufacturer of high-performance servo motors and drives, with a global reach and growing reputation for innovative motion control solutions.
Our Delta servo ranges include the ASDA-B3 range, ideal for 1ph/230VAC mains supplies and featuring a variety of features and functions. For more demanding, higher-power applications, particularly where the supply is 3ph/400VAC, we also have an ASDA-A3 range.
Both servo motor ranges seamlessly fit our linear actuator and belt actuator products. With our Sesame planetary gearboxes, flexible couplings, and aluminium extrusion, you can construct a cost-effective, high-quality gantry system with ease.
What Is a Servo System?
Servo systems are designed for dynamic or high-precision applications. They assist with controlling the position, speed, and acceleration of mechanical systems, utilising a closed-loop feedback system between a motor, a feedback sensor, and a controller.
Servo systems have a variety of applications, primarily within automation. They are commonly used in production, printing, and robotics.
What Does a Servo System Consist Of?
- Servo Motor: A highly dynamic electric motor to provide high rotational speed and accurate positioning.
- Servo Drive: A power amplifier which takes mains power and converts it to a high-frequency PWM waveform. It accurately controls the speed and position of the servo motor.
- Planetary Gearbox: A high-precision gearbox which multiplies the motor torque to optimise performance and size. It also minimises backlash to ensure accurate speed control and positioning.
- PLC or Motion Controller: A controller which provides the overall control of the servo system to suit the application requirements in terms of position, speed, and duty cycle.
- Touch Panel: A user interface which enables the machine operator to enter product information, conduct diagnostics, handle product recipes, and log machine data.
How Does a Servo Motor Work?
A servo motor is a highly dynamic and high-precision electric motor used in motion control applications. In a servo system, the motor provides high-speed motion with precise control of angular position, acceleration, and velocity.
Inside a servo motor, gears connect it to a control wheel. In response to differences in resistance recorded by a potentiometer, the motor uses the wheel to regulate movement and direction and respond to them.
What Are the Benefits of a Servo System?
Servo systems are designed to offer superior performance and control compared to more conventional motion control systems, such as AC motors, DC motors, stepper motors, hydraulics, and pneumatics. The key benefits that servo systems offer include:
- Dynamic motion
- High positional accuracy
- Low cogging torque
- Wide speed range
- Constant rated torque across the speed range
- Highly efficient and reliable
- Compact size
